Resisting Scams

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

So you have just Googled “make money now” and something new has come up. You haven’t seen this particular website before and it looks professional with a ton of testimonials. The website promises that you can make $100 by the end of today.

You are thinking “that is just what I need…I could use the grocery money to pay the $49.95 registration, because I will get it back, doubled, by the end of today”

STOP! STEP BACK and THINK!

When you read it here, it probably sounds silly. You are probably thinking you would never fall for such a thing, but let’s face it, you probably already have. With a nifty sales page and perhaps a free newsletter they have gained your trust. A few screenshots of the guys Clickbank account and you are sold. Your credit card details are entered before you know what you are doing. Your order is confirmed and you can feel the excitement and hope coursing through your veins.

That evening you are sitting at home, watching TV. You didn’t make $100. It turns out that the market was too saturated and it wasn’t as easy as it was made out to be. The guy won’t refund you as he says you haven’t tried it out for 30 days.

You’ve been scammed again.

So what can you do to avoid that situation? The first thing to do is to STOP. Take a moment to do something else. Make a cup of tea or go for a walk. Use this time to STEP BACK and seriously THINK about the offer. Have they even told you what the “opportunity” consists of?

Consider how you will feel when it inevitably doesn’t work out. You will be $50 down and will feel pretty bad about yourself too. Less money for groceries – how will you explain that?

When you get back to your computer, Google the offer. Check out Scam.com and of course MissGullible.com to see what others have to say. Take it to heart when others say they have been ripped off. Check out my blog. I may have already been scammed by this offer. They don’t call me MissGullible for nothing.

Don’t keep it a secret from your loved ones. A genuine opportunity would be exciting to your family. I have kept so many secrets, being ashamed of myself and knowing in my heart of hearts it may not work out. Maybe the negativity from your family is a good thing. Listen to the voice of reason.

Start working on a serious business plan of your own. Don’t pay anyone else for a job. What are you good at? What do you love? Is there a way to make money out of that? Do some volunteer work to prove to yourself that money really isn’t everything.

My ultimate dream is to own an animal sanctuary. By volunteering at an animal sanctuary I am able to get closer to that dream without being “financially free”.
