Affiliate Programs

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

An affiliate is someone who promotes a company’s products and shares part of the profit. Affiliate programs are not always scams, however you should still be very wary of them, as often the only people to make any money are the owners of the company and not the affiliates themselves.

Some affiliate programs are free to join. They may provide you with ads for Pay per click campaigns and email campaigns. There are many online affiliate programs, most notably Clickbank.com, which is a marketplace for affiliate programs. You can sign up and then choose which programs you would like to promote. You then receive a share of the profit each time someone buys the product (usually information).

There is another type of affiliate program that should be avoided at all costs and that is the kind, which requires you to pay a fee before you can promote. This company would rely mainly on making money from you personally, rather than your sales. Remember you should never have to pay for a job.

Now, as you’ve probably already guessed Miss Gullible has been conned by many an affiliate program. Here is an example of one.

Now Clickbank.com in itself is not a scam. Unfortunately there are many scams being sold as “information products” via Clickbank. All the products in the Click bank market place have affiliate programs.

Soon after I arrived in Australia from England to be with my fiancée, I was surfing the net looking for a job. I had already submitted many applications and had heard nothing and then I saw this ad:

Simple Data Entry Work Make Money Today Step-by-Step Guide Dataentrybank.com

At the time this was still quite new and I was intrigued. Just think how wonderful it would be to start making money from home today! I clicked on the ad and read through the website. I was excited.

I paid the fee through Clickbank to sign up and received the information. It was quite detailed and told me step by step what to do. So far so good.

It turned out that the “data entry forms” were actually Google PPC ads, so I created a few of these and bid to have them displayed in the sponsored section.

Over the next month a few people clicked on my ads and a few even paid for the information on how they could make money filling in forms. I had made about $200. It felt good.

Then I looked at my Google PPC account. It was over $500! I couldn’t believe I owed them that much money. I was out of pocket again. I wasn’t even making any more sales as there were too many people promoting the same website. The cheque from Clickbank took ages to arrive. After 2 months it came through and a month later it was processed.

This is the problem with Clickbank:

All the products are being promoted by a LOT of people. There is too much competition!

Many of the products are a bit like pyramid schemes in that you get paid to recruit more people to recruit more people.

The best thing to do is to create your own information product, rather than trying to sell someone else’s. You can create your own website which takes a commission from reccomending certain products. Live-online-casino is a great example of a successful independent affiliate website.

Please don’t waste your money on PPC ads and email campaigns that DO NOT WORK!
